Review - Post 24

My experience with the whole creative process for this film was not the easiest, but also not the hardest. At first, I created a draft film with an entirely different plot and tone to it. I'll post the draft video and go over it in another blog post. For now, I want to go over everything with the final film opening.

The plot of this film was to convey a feeling of intensity and suspense. The genre was to contain elements of criminal/mafia along with action. By starting off the film with a fast-paced car, I wanted to portray rising tension and uncertainty. I believe the camera shots and angles I used established that, but it could've been taken better with some intense music in the background.

The actors and acting in general is good, but could've been way better with more professionalism and execution. In some scenes, you can see both of them smiling when they shouldn't have. It didn't help to portray how serious the scene or situation should've been. Next time, I need to be less lenient and more strict on their acting, though, I should do the same because we all couldn't stop laughing.

Editing was one of, if not, the easiest part of this whole process. One of my peers in the class recommended an app called Vivacut, and it's what I ended up using. The way I filmed the opening was recording all scenes in cuts, meaning every cut or transition you see in the film was a small recording. The app allowed me to select all short videos and put them together. Although I had a lot more time on the film than what was allowed, the app also allowed me to effectively cut out frames and scenes that I felt were not important to meet the time requirements. I was able to change the lighting and saturation of certain scenes to make it more ominous as well as add music at the end to add a bit of a solemn yet hopeful tone to make the audience think what happens next.

Overall, the experience as a whole was very fun and I'm excited to create my final film opening for examination. I need to make sure I plan ahead what I want to create and how I'm going to execute it. I also have to be more on top of the actors as well as the plot and mise on scene. I can't wait to grow further on apply better on my next project.
