https://www.nyfa.edu/student-resources/a-beginners-guide-to-film-editing-vocabulary/
  • Cut - A transition between two shots
  • Cross Cutting - Portraying two storylines to be occurring at the same time by cutting between the two continuously
  • Cutaway - Interrupting a continuous shot with another that has some relation to the former
  • Dissolve - A transition created by the overlapping of one shot onto another
  • Eyeline match - A technique to follow what a character is looking at and cut between the character and the eyeline
  • Jump cuts - An abrupt cut between shots that can miss parts of action
  • Shot-reverse-shot - The alternating shots between characters in over-the-shoulder shots
