Review - Post 24

My experience with the whole creative process for this film was not the easiest, but also not the hardest. At first, I created a draft film with an entirely different plot and tone to it. I'll post the draft video and go over it in another blog post. For now, I want to go over everything with the final film opening. The plot of this film was to convey a feeling of intensity and suspense. The genre was to contain elements of criminal/mafia along with action. By starting off the film with a fast-paced car, I wanted to portray rising tension and uncertainty. I believe the camera shots and angles I used established that, but it could've been taken better with some intense music in the background. The actors and acting in general is good, but could've been way better with more professionalism and execution. In some scenes, you can see both of them smiling when they shouldn't have. It didn't help to portray how serious the scene or situation should've been. Next time,...

Preliminary Task: Story Board - Post 22

At first, I had an idea of a plot about regular teens, but that attempt was not the best, so I discarded the idea. (I will go into more detail in another blog post) For my second idea, my friend Elizabeth helped me think of a story that made sense and would be possible to record. She mentioned about the Italian Mafias and how I could center my opening around that. I liked the idea and thought that trying to create an opening with the genre "crime and gangster," would be fun - and it was! So, I wanted the opening to start with an intense scene to catch the audience's attention; and what a better way than to create a kidnapping and fighting scene? In order to do this, I went to my friend Marcos' house and used his car as a major prop. I decided that Marcos would be the bad guy and Elizabeth would be the good guy. It was the only thing that made sense for me because those were the only people I had to work with in such a short time. In the beginning scene, I wanted to sh...

Planning: Ideas and Concerns - Post 20

For my film opening, the new ideas I thought of was to consider casting new people and using different settings. For instance, I can shoot scenes in a car as well as an empty field or park. As for the editing, I would like to hold off on recording till I get my new laptop soon. The newer model I'm purchasing will have more storage and have better programs to make editing easier and accessible.  A few concerns I have for this project is the global pandemic still at bay. With all the restrictions in place, my scenes would have limited diversity as well as the actors participating. In order to create my opening, I'll need a group of people for some scenes and I'll have to be considerate on everyone's circumstances and situations. Plus, I don't believe I'll be able to record all scenes I need in just one day. If the pandemic and cases become worse later on, it'll become a hindrance to my process, so hopefully it'll become less severe after a certain amount o...

Representation of Women in Film - Post 18

Image
There's no doubt in the progression of representation of women throughout the years in film. However, there are still issues and challenges women face today regarding this. For instance, genres like action, historical, and fiction still don't represent women how they want to be presented in today's society. Genres that associate with heroes and sci-fi are types of films that can embody empowerment and bring out the best qualities of people. Despite that, not a lot of people, especially women, feel that way according to the chart below. https://www.womensmediacenter.com/reports/bbca-wmc-superpowering-girls
